We moved...and we'll moved again!

It doesn’t mean that when we moved, we moved to a better place. Honestly, it’s the contrary. We left our apartment with two bedrooms (the master bedroom is with aircon unit and a “mirror wall”), two comfort rooms, spacious garage, wide balcony and water-metered system to an inferior one. After a year of living in an expensive apartment, we decided that’s it’s now the time to save more. Moving in a cheaper apartment could be a great help. We moved last November 1, 2009 to an apartment with a rental fee of almost half the price of the previous one (later did I know, it also means “half” the comfort…sigh….). Much to my dismay, the place is infested with mosquitoes and termites, noisy neighbor (why didn’t I noticed before that the apartment next to us is a carpenter’s shop that loves to work until midnight? ), worm-filled comfort room (it can’t be a comfort room anymore!) and an electric water pump (I overlooked this important thing because I thought that once you live in a city all water system is “metered”…) . It consumed a lot of electricity once we turned it on.

I don’t want to blame myself or anyone for this decision that we’ve made. I know I’ve learned a lesson in a hard way, it’s better to deal with it. Maybe, we had made our decision in a hasty way and we forgot to wait upon God’s direction. But if I turn on the other side, God only allows these things so that we’ll find the perfect house/apartment for us. You see, if we haven’t moved here, we’ll miss the opportunity of finding a new apartment one apartment away from us. It happens that the owner of that house used to be my church mate before at a Christian church where I used to fellowship. He visited our apartment once and talked to my sis-in-law (who was staying with us for a while after she gave birth) about his new apartment and his plan to have the water system be run on meter. My SIL relayed to us the message and we’re quite excited about it so my hubby called on him and necessary arrangement were made.

Yes, definitely we’ll move again after 2-3 weeks after the electricity line and water system will be installed and connected. We already notified our internet/telephone provider to move our old account to this new address. I can’t wait! Though it only has one room, it’s fine with us. There’s more ventilation on it compared here. The floor is tiled as well as in the lavatory. I’m grateful for God for the favor. He sees what’s best for us. About the rental fee? It’s a bit higher (just 500 baht more) but it’s worth it.

Another thing that I like about our new place is that it’s just 3-5 minutes walk to Diana Mall and to the city’s park. I could go there doing our grocery shopping with Hyzyd anytime we want without waiting for my dear to send us there. On Saturdays, we could just walk with Hyzyd on stroller to Diana’s Skippy’s Wonderland to let my son play. Anytime we want we could watch at the cinema or go bowling. I could check anytime of the day if bags and shoes are on sale! LOL!

Hopefully, I’ll be back online by December and at that time I’ll be wiser in spending my time. As of now, I enjoy reading the Bible. God is teaching me new things and I enjoy His new teachings and new facts I discovered in the Bible.

Practical Housekeeping Tips

I hope that these practical tips may help you make your housekeeping responsibilities cool, easy and inexpensive as it helps me.

  • Sour sponge. Soak sponge in lemon juice for some time or until you’re satisfied with the smell. Rinse.

  • Non-greasy dishes. Adding a tablespoon of baking soda to your soapy water will not only help in washing dishes; it will also soften your hands.

  • Oil stains. Rub oil-spotted area with a piece of lime dipped in salt for a non-greasy look.

  • Sweet corn. When boiling corn on the cob, add a pinch of sugar to help bring out the corn’s natural sweetness.

  • Egg freshness. To determine whether an egg is fresh, immerse it in a pan of cool, salted water. It sinks, it is fresh. If it rises, it is time to throw it away.

Workbooks for little learners

School year 2009-2010 is the first trial year for my school to include teaching English for Anuban 1 (toddlers ages 3-4). The administration pulled me out from the Grade level to teach pre-schoolers (a special request from our manager). I know that it would be challenging. Though I taught preschool in the Philippines, I am not yet so confident if I could handle this class. The only assurance they gave me is that classroom management is not a problem to me coz the Anuban advisers will be there to help me. My only concern is to teach English once a week per class and prepare a worksheet for them. You should know how hard is it to prepare worksheets for little learners who just encountered English for the first time. I pass a draft worksheet every other week, number the worksheet painstakingly and checked them. The same thing I did for Anuban 2 (I’m handling Anuban 1 and 2 , by the way) I’m glad that on the second semester, the administration decided to book bind the worksheets –a workbook finally! Now, I’m more relaxed coz it doesn’t take time anymore to number each worksheets everyday over and over again. By the way, we use numbers to identify the students’ coz I couldn’t read Thai script and it’s the advisers who will help me in distributing the workbooks coz it’s impossible to memorize each students number in 25 classes! I’ll pass the pencils while the teacher is distributing and stamping dates. Now that’s teamwork!

the teacher passing on worksheets

Problem arise when the teacher is absent coz the substitute doesn’t know the name of the students and the student numbers so I’ll either choose to have a game or oral recitation. For Anuban 2, I could let them do the exercises if they know their student number. I’ll just spread it on the floor and they’ll have to find their number (just get the idea from one of the advisers . . .pretty smart huh…) This second semester, there’s one class in anuban 2 that the adviser maximize the assistance of students- one will distribute the pencils, one for erasers and 2 or more students for the workbooks (they’ve memorized the numbers of their classmates already).

one way of distributing worksheets if teacher-adviser isn't around and if students (Anuban 2) already knew their Student No.

The sun is out, at last

I thought we’ll not be having our class today because of the heavy rain and some part of Hatyai is flooded. I’ve heard from my co-teachers that that only our school and Thidanukhro have pursue to have classes. In fact, only half of my class is present. Thanks be to God that the sun comes out already in the afternoon. Hopefully, tomorrow will be a fine day and most of my little learners will be present.

Happy Birthday Niko!

When are you coming, Direct TV?

Moving isn't easy for me. I missed a lot of things- good old neighbors, a quiet place, our internet and cable TV. I wonder now on what happens to my favorite Korean Drama "The Jolly Widows" at KBS World. Does anybody know out there?

I'm asking this morning my co-teacher on how much does it cost if we'll let Hatyai Cable install a line to our new apartment. She said it's just about 300 something baht per month with few English Channels like MM1, V Channel, Fox News, Australia Channel, Aljazeera, Channel News Asia and KBS World (with English subtitles). We're also wondering if subscribing to UBC would be good for us. (The main "cable" provider is a company called True, and their cable service is called "True Visions". It is often called "UBC" because that was the name of the previous company which True bought up (United Broadcasting Corporation). True Visions offers different sets of channels at different prices. (Your subscription is linked to the serial number of the decoder box they give you. You can upgrade at any time.) Their programs include lots of movie channels, cartoons, western sports (European soccer, some US basketball and football, other stuff), and educational channels like Discovery, National Geographic, Animal Planet, and The History Channel.

How I wish Direct TV is available here in Thailand (The whole thing about the earth being round and the satellites not being able to go around the curve). If it did, I can't imagine anyone would be paying for UBC . Why I suddenly think of Direct TV? As I've read from my fellow bloggers, they claimed that Directtv offers the following benefits and features:

It provide superior quality 100% Digital Programming.
It saves your hard earn $$ over cable service.
It has wider programming capability and Choices than cable TV.
It utilizes the latest technology for television enjoyment.
It offer state-of-the-art High Definition Broadcasting.
Check out what's in a Direct TV Packages- there are over 150 digital channels for only 29.99/month including your local channels (as I saw at http://www.directsattv.com/directv/) (remember that's over 150 100% DIGITAL QUALITY channels!) , sports, XM Radio and more! Good for those who are in US. How about us here in Thailand? When will Direct TV be available in Asia?

I'm on-leave indefinitely...

I'm so sorry to tell you guyz that I'm ON-LEAVE INDIFINITELY from the blogosphere. Our internet connection isn't installed yet and we'll move again about 2-3 weeks from now. Why? I can't yet specify to you the reasons. You'll surely know few days from now if I could find time to blog. By the way my parents and youngest sis already flew back home last Friday and I still terribly missed them. Maybe, this is the reason why I'm not yet motivated to blog.
To all my friends, please bear with me. I miss you guyz and I will surely visit you after I won our "battle"...LOL!

Today with Pehpot

If there was "Today with Kris" before, I should say there's "Today with Pehpot" in the blogosphere- a popular talk show hosted by my Mare Pehpot . Different guest bloggers are invited every Wednesday to discuss different topics. This months topics cover caring for newborn and caesarian delivery.

I am honored to be invited to talk with her about caring for newborn. I copied the discussion from her site Make or Break coz I loved the way we tackled the different issues of caring for newborn. Mare Pehpot, you rock!!! and congratulations for having pretty Sati. I welcome you Sati Ananta to this beautiful world God created for you and me:)

(Photo source: from her Mommy Pehpot )

Isn't she adorable?

Host: Hello again everyone. You all know by now that the most awaited baby in blogniverse arrived last Sunday. Some of you may wonder why we were not able to update you with Sati's arrival last Monday.. of course, most of our episodes are not live.. hihi.. As we continue with our topic this week, CARING FOR NEWBORN, our next guest is another blogger from Marce Club. I give to you, ladies and gentlemen, the woman, the teacher, Pinay from Thailand, Gene of Her and History. So tell us Gene, how does it feel being with us today?

Gene: Hello everyone, when Pehpot asked me to be a guest blogger, I was honored, but a bit nervous. I was unsure what to say about being first-time mom even though words seem to flow out. I just hope that you'll find some lessons out from my experiences.

Host: I am pretty sure a lot of moms will learn something from you today. Since it was your first baby, how did you prepared yourself? Did you go around asking for advices or just head on to the nearest bookstore and buy lot of books about childcare?

Gene: I got pregnant 3 months after I got married and I’m prepared in every aspect of my life to welcome a new member of the family. I’m not worried or afraid giving birth in a foreign land and being away from my family. Being the eldest of 14 and a believer of God make me independent, reliable and strong-willed woman. I’m pretty sure that I could take care of a newborn baby that God will entrust to me.I also thank God, “Babywise” came to our way. It’s an exciting infant management plan that successfully and naturally trains children to sleep through the night before the age of eight weeks. I discovered in here the positive prescription for curing sleepless nights and fussy babies. In our case, Hyzyd learned to sleep contentedly and continually before he reaches 12 weeks. We also applied swaddling to him. Modern medical studies indicate that swaddling assists babies to sleep, and to remain asleep; and that it lowers the risk of sudden infant death syndrome (cot death).

Host: I can see how brave you are, specially that you gave birth in a foreign land. I am really curious, who helped you along the way? Did your parents came all the way from the Philippines?

Gene: I’m blessed that my mother, father and youngest sister were able to come on the first week of October amidst my parents hectic schedules in the preschool ministry and speaking engagements. They’re our
helpmates on the first 2 weeks of sleepless nights!

Host: That was really touching and I heard that recovery from childbirth would be easier if it is your mom is taking care of you. But is there any time where you feel uncomfortable or inadequate being a
mom?

Gene: I couldn’t believe that giving birth is as easy as that! It’s painful…yeah…but I’m still expecting for the most excruciating pain to come but it didn’t so Epidural is out of the way. It’s just like having an LBM and what I just wanted to do is to poo! LOL! I’m still pushing when the nurses asked me to stop coz the baby is out already…he..he.. It’s my first time yet I’m not afraid nor worried coz I know God is with me, my family is praying for me and I had done the necessary preparation –mentally,
physically, financially, emotionally and spiritually. One thing that sometimes makes me feel like a failure is I’m unable to breastfeed. During my pregnancy I was so excited about the idea of breastfeeding but when the baby is out, I’ve tried exhaustively and unsuccessfully. Maybe nature just didn't work for me. My baby has hard time latching on my nipple because it’s inverted, he didn’t get enough milk so he’s fussy, frustrated and unhappy. My family agreed to formula feed him.

Host: That was really hard and though I never experienced being a mom, I can see how frustrating it has been to you. What are your advices to new moms or moms to be who may experience the same
difficulty with breastfeeding?

Gene: If you fail also in this area (breastfeeding), please don’t feel bad. We tried the best we can. I'm so sick and tired of the way society and "medical professionals" make women feel like failures and less of a mother when we make the decision, for whatever reason, to formula feed. It should be our decision and really nobody else's business. You DO NOT love your child any less by not breastfeeding and if you're anything like me, you will bond more with your baby when feeding him/her with a bottle because you will be able to enjoy each other's company without the worry and anxiety.Lastly, do what feels right to you. If you want your baby to sleep in his cot, go for it. If you want him to sleep in your bed, then let him be. If you decide to feed a bottle rather than breast, it's your call. Being a Mom is a huge responsibility, and like anything else, we have to make the experiences our own. Just remember that our babies will just be babies once and this is the time we have to bond, and create a lasting healthy relationship. It can’t be avoided that we will receive all kinds of advices but the fact still remains that this is OUR baby, and we need to do what we feel is best, and if something happens out of a wrong choice..we’ll have it figured out before the next one comes.

Host: Now, if in case I decide to have a baby, I know that you will be more than willing to help me out. Thank you so much and Gene and I do enjoy our conversation and really learned a lot from it. I knew our readers feel the same too.

What can you say? Head over to Make or Break and I'm sure you'll learn a lot as I do.

No internet connection yet

All my remaining energy were exhausted after I gave the announcement of winners yesterday. I just wanted to keep my promise to you that I will announce the winners on the 10th of November. Now that my contest concluded, all my energy to blog was temporarily drained. It's hard to blog in school you know. After lunch break, I have to go to the other building , climb the 5th storey building where the school's internet room is found, surf the internet for an hour- the most time I could spare, get downstairs and be back to the teacher's office to prepare for the afternoon's class.

I called TOT yesterday to follow-up our telephone and internet connection. They asked us to wait for another 3 days! Okay, what can I do? I just have to wait....Anyway, I'm enjoying my life being temporarily disconnected to the blogosphere though I miss my friends in here and joining interesting memes- Girls Talk, Couples Corner, Mommy Moments and more! I simply enjoy the life I used to be without the internet. I hope to back here in blogosphere as soon as possible.
To all the winners: Kindly contact first your sponsors. Just simply tell
them that you won in my contest and give them the link of the contest's result as a proof. There's no need to be ashamed of and I assure you, all my sponsors are kindhearted and accomodating. I will surely help you if there's a problem encountered in communicating with your sponsors but I can't extend help right away coz there's still no internet connection in my new place. I hope you understand. Thank you.

Word for Today: The Power of Encouragement

Goethe said, 'Treat a man as he appears to be, and you make him worse. But treat a man as if he already were what he potentially could be, and you make him what he should be.'

One day a principal called in three teachers and said, 'You three are the finest in the system, so we're giving you ninety high-IQ students to see what you can do with them.' Those students achieved thirty percent more than the other students in the school. At the end of the year the principal called the three teachers in and said, 'I've a confession to make. You didn't have ninety of the most promising students; they were run-of-the-mill. We picked them at random and gave them to you.' The teachers naturally concluded that their exceptional teaching skills must have been responsible for the students' great progress. 'I've another confession,' said the principal. 'You're not the brightest teachers; your names were the first three drawn out of the hat.' So, why did those students and teachers perform at such a level? Because they were encouraged to believe they could! Baseball star Reggie Jackson said, 'I'll tell you what makes a great manager; a great manager has a knack for making ball-players think they are better than they are. He forces you to have a good opinion of yourself. He lets you know he believes in you. He makes you get more out of yourself. And once you learn how good you really are, you'll never settle for playing anything less than your very best.'

Today, let's go out and encourage somebody!

Spring Cleaning is what I need now

Did you know Mimi Tanner, author of "Declutter Fast - How To Get Your Home In Order Almost Immediately" ? I've leaned a lot from here. I wanna share today about one tradition that few people talk about now is the tradition of Spring Cleaning. Once upon a time,Spring Cleaning was expected, and was a matter of pride.

Times have changed, but there are still plenty of us who miss traditions like Spring Cleaning - where the entire house gets aired out and scrubbed from top to bottom, inside and out - and the clutter gets tossed ( it happens in the Philippines when fiesta is approaching)!

Whether you do your Spring Cleaning in the Spring or some other time of year, the idea of Spring Cleaning is that once per year, all the nooks and crannies in your home get a real cleaning - and the really big jobs get done!

Spring Cleaning is a wonderful old tradition which we must keep alive, don't you agree?

Her friend and fellow author, Maria Gracia, shares this love of the once-a-year deep cleaning tradition. She has several hints to share on how to Spring Clean your home:

1. Make yourself a schedule that is comprised of one hour and one task each day. Your schedule may look something like this:

Monday: Decluttering

Tuesday: Dusting

Wednesday: Vacuuming

Thursday: Scrubbing

Friday: Organizing and Rearranging

Saturday: Laundering

Sunday: Decorating

Then, spend 30 minutes to one hour each day doing your assigned task for each room, throughout your house. You'll be amazed at the difference you can make in your home by following this simple system.

2. Be ruthless.

If you don't love it, and/or you don't use it, it's clutter. Make it a quest of yours to be ruthless when it comes to your decluttering efforts. You'll have less to dust, less clutter to look it, an easier time finding thethings you do use and less stress in your life.

3. Donate or sell.

If you have items that you don't use, but are in good condition, they are prime candidates to sell or donate. Gather all of these items together in boxes or plastic
bags. Then, decide whether you would prefer to donate them or sell them.

4. Make your spring cleaning and organizing fun.

Don't think of it as a chore. Instead, think of it as a'feel good' exercise--one that will really help you to feel good about yourself and your clean and organized
environment.

Play some lively, fun, upbeat music. Dance your way through your home or office with your dust rag or vacuum. Get the family involved. Give everyone a task, and then do something relaxing afterwards, like watching a movie together or going to the park for a walk.

Set timers and play 'beat the clock.' Give yourself time limits for completing small tasks, and try to complete those tasks before the timer goes off.

Ask a friend to help, or do a swap. You clean her living room if she'll clean your kitchen.

5. Open your windows.

There's nothing like taking in a breath of fresh air. As you're cleaning, open the windows. You'll be removing musty winter odors, protecting yourself from inhaling
harsh fumes from cleaning products and the fresh air will keep you going.

While you're at it, let the sun shine in. Open curtains and drapes to give yourself plenty of light for an energy boost.

These tips are very helpful for me as we've just moved to a new apartment and I want to organize our new home almost immediately.

PS. This is a scheduled post as we still don't have internet
connection:(

Word for Today: The Great Exchange

While waiting for the big announcement of winners, I'm trying to schedule posts to entertain your day with some inspirational messages I've learned from my personal devotion and from my readings.

For today, I want to share to you an article from The Word for Today:

The Bible says: 1) 'You must not steal' (Exodus 20:15 TLB). Have you ever stolen anything? a paper clip, a parking space, the credit for someone else's idea?
2) 'You must not lie' (Exodus 20:16 TLB). You say you haven't - you just did.
3) 'You must not commit adultery' (Exodus 20:14 TLB) Jesus said if you look at someone with lust, you've committed adultery in your heart (Matthew 5:28); ouch!
4) 'You must not murder' (Exodus 20:13 TLB). Before you claim innocence, remember that Jesus equates anger with murder. 'anyone who is so much as angry with a brother or sister is guilty of murder... ' (Matthew 5:22 TM). We assassinate a dozen drivers on our way to work every morning.
Bad news: on your best day, you still fall far short of the divine standard required to get into heaven. Good news: 'He was wounded for our transgressions... The chastisement for our peace was upon Him... ' (Isaiah 53:5NKJV). A Chinese convert to Christianity understood this. Before her baptism the pastor asked her a question to ensure she understood the meaning of the cross: 'Did Jesus have any sin?' 'Yes,' she replied. Troubled, he repeated the question. 'Yes, He had sin,' she answered again. The pastor set out to correct her, but she insisted, 'He had mine.' And she was right! 'God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become [righteous in God's eyes].' This is the great exchange. The holy and the vile change places. God makes right what was wrong, and straight what was crooked. Aren't you glad?

I've finalized the number of entries of each participants for my first contest. If you're curious of how many entries do you have, just read the "comments" in the comment box and you'll see my response for your comments and the number of entries you've earned in BOLD.

I've decided to write scheduled posts starting tomorrow until the 10th to entertain you my dear readers while waiting for the announcement of winners. Why scheduled posts? Because we don't yet have internet connection. It's my Mares Pehpot, K, and Niko who gave me ideas on the benefit of writing scheduled posts..he..he...

Her and History's blog contest ends today...

Did you manage to join my first blog contest? Well, good for you coz lots of prizes are at stake and hopefully I'll announce the winners on the 10th of November. The contest ends at 6:00 pm today (Bangkok time) . Thank you so much for joining and I'm so excited who'll emerge as lucky winners coz I'll pick up the winners by randomnization (c/o Random.Org). Randomnization will not be done once only and pick up the lucky 10. Instead,I'll start randomnizing the list to pick up one winner for each special prizes ( I'll pick the items listed on no.1 ). Next, for the 10th prize,I'll randomnized the list again and pick up the winner listed on no.10. I'll erase the list of the winner before I'll reset and randomized the list again to give chance to others. In this case, the more entries you have, the more chances of winning a spot. I'll randomized again and pick up the the winner for the 9th prize enlisted on no.9. The same procedure will happen in choosing the 8th prize winner till the 1st.

By the way, we still don't have internet connection. The survey hasn't taken place yet and we need to follow-up again our request for transfer of our telephone account. While waiting for the internet connection, I enjoy the moment I have with my family without the intervention of my "blogging career"...LOL! I enjoy snuggling with my family while watching movies, singing, playing with our toddler, taking care of my hubby, shopping (window shopping most of the time..LOL!) with my mother, talking with my father, kissing my baby niece and enjoying the benefits of sleeping...LOL!

See you next time. God bless you all.

We've moved and blogging is impossible these days...

We moved to a new apartment last Saturday. I haven't yet settled in our new place and maybe it will take me a month to unpack and arrange everything. We already started our class today and it seems that I'm cramming with my lessons..Waaahhhhh....but thanks be to God that I'm doing fine this morning in my class - workbooks were already distributed in each class and during the review my learners remembered the past vocabularies they've learned and the songs that I've taught them.

It may take a week before I'll be connected to internet again. So just please bear with me this time. This is the reason why I can't visit you back nor reply to your comments. I couldn't join memes too. I appreciate your visit here, your sweet messages and comments. Thank you so much.

About the contest, it will difinitely end on the 5th of November and I hope we'll have internet connection again ASAP so that I could announce the winnners on the 10th. Thank you for supporting my first contest.
