Busy as bees in the campus

Last year was my first year teaching kindergarten. I was a grade school teacher here in our school for the past 2 years but when the administration decided to try out English program in Kinder 1, they promoted me here. LOL! I thought I couldn't make it but to God be the glory that it was a success and English program for Kinder 1 is continued this year with more learners. One thing I like about being assigned in Kindergarten department is that we have Thai teacher partners to take care order and management inside the classroom plus we don't need to make grades. But not this year. We were asked to make grades and report cards! It's really a big work if you're handling thousands of students. It really takes time to make grades, I tell you. Thanks to my co-teacher who's good in Microsoft excel where I'll just tally the students grade and voila total points and average grades were computed automatically. It's still a long way to go before I'll be able to finish filling up the report cards.

By the way, the school's semester will end next week. So everybody are busy as a bee. I wonder if I could even blog? Students will be taking their final exams, teachers will be busy checking test papers, finalizing grades, submitting report cards, drafting lesson plans for next semester and printing worksheets for our English camp that will commence on October 4. I saw our school registrar distributing promotional products like pens, umbrellas and key chains to the parents and visiting students to promote our school. We'll expect more students this coming semester or the next school year.

Two absents in a week...first time in my teaching career

Last time I posted HERE that if I'll be absent today that we'll make a history and YES it is!

Yesterday, when my hubby came to school to fetched me he told me that there's a change of schedule in their school's calendar...instead of having their final test on SUNDAY, it is moved TODAY! OH no...I can't do a thing so before I went home, I went to see the head of the kindergarten department and told her of my predicament. Glad that she's considerate and understands my situation.

So, I'm at home now taking care and bonding with my baby.

I'm sick today...

My energy has zapped today! I felt so drained today that I don't have energy left to do anything plus I have sore throat...I finally decided not to go to school so I just stayed at home blogging resting. I feel better today. I want to wake up early tomorrow and I'm hoping that my body won't feel lack of pep and vitality again.

The babysitter asked me today that on Friday she will not be able to come because she's going to have a "visa run"..Oh no..I have to be absent again...:( Thank God that when I told my hubby he said they don't have class on Friday so he'll be the one to take care of our baby. Thank you so much my dear. You really help unload the burden I felt this morning that I'll be absent from school for 2 days in a week. If it happens, this will be the first in history...he..he...

It's Sports Day and I'm out!

It's Sports Day today at Suwanwong School but only K-3 students up to Grade 6 participates. As a K-1 and K-2 ESL teacher, I am left without choice to conduct class amidst the unbearable noise of cheering squads and audience, drum beatings and shouting from the top of the studen'ts lungs! That's why I'm out today from the campus. I'm right here in an internet cafe enjoying the peaceful and cold environment .

I have some snapshots of the event but posting them can wait. I have to gather my energy to face my K-2 students this afternoon. I'll just review to them the songs that we've learned about numbers 1-10 and colors before I let them do their worksheet on COLORS.

Thanks God it's Friday!

Wan Pen Duan Sip- All Souls Day!?!

Last Friday I was curious why this ugly statue was erected at the playground. The teacher told me that it's "Wan Pen Duan Sip". The purpose of this is to give offering to ghosts and dead people and one reason is giving the offering to themselves when they die. This explains why a lot of Thai desserts (kanom) were spread on the table:

The event is similar to the "All Souls Day" we have in the Philippines.

I got the chance to mingle with my Anuban 1/3 students and have some pictures with them:

My fave school uniform...

On Mondays and Tuesdays, we could wear anything formal like this:

or this:
but I love wearing this one!

T-shirt and jogging pants with matching rubber shoes (it's Sketchers by the way...LOL!). Yellow -shirt for Wednesday, pink for Thursday and blue for Friday with the school's name at the back. I feel so comfy with it with all the dancing, twirling and other"acrobatic" activities inside the classroom...LOL!

At first, I'm not comfortable with it because in the Philippines teachers do have formal attires and some schools don't want you to wear slacks but in here it's very common for teachers to wear "PE uniforms" on school days. I think I started to adapt their culture.

What's keeping me from you?

...This is the reason why I can't update my post everyday, visit you regularly or leave messages:

my hubby find me in this position when he fetched me in school...checking worksheets!

loads of unchecked papers are still under my table!

I'm checking 995 sheets of papers a week!

I need reinforcement!

glimpses of my life in the classroom...

Lessons for today involves parts of the body and three-letter words ending with -at. A worksheet was given afterward. My fans were behaved inside the classroom after all. They're smart students.

He's asking me if his answer is correct...

They're quiet and serious...

The two 3 years old boys are one of the cutest and smallest boys in the class. They're so adorable. They make me feel I'm still sweet 16!...LOL!

It's hard to be a celebrity!...

...in the eyes of MY students! I couldn't pass along the aisle, the hallway, and in the pathway without the screaming of these lil ones "Teacher Jenny", "Pitcher Benny", "Khun Kruu" (Thai word for teacher), "Lao Sue" (Chinese word for teacher) and other related words...They're like fans always rushing towards me in madness!!!

Just like this afternoon, I came down to go to the nearest restaurant for lunch. I was walking fast thinking that I could avoid them (they're busy brushing their teeth) . I'm trying my best to be invisible but look what happen:

I thought that they didn't see me!

I was wrong! they came running and screaming like fans seeing their fave actress...LOLZ!!!

they're grabbing my umbrella!

Thank goodness, I'm FREE!

look how they wave goodbye to me...like cheering for their idol...LOLz...

Carry ko ba 'to....
