Basketball Training

Hubby's into basketball training since he played last month during their school's sports' day celebration. They lost the game with 5 points difference! He's been practicing his vertical jump, passing skill, shooting and dribbling skills so that he'll be ready for another game in their school next month.

It's great that he's training and to help determine that he's really improving, he joined a Filipino basketball team who's playing every Saturday night. So far, his team won 2 times already and they'll be playing for championship next weekend.

Based on my hubby's experience, if you're into basketball and wanted to improve your skills, you need to consider the following few basketball training tips to help you take your game to the next level:
  • Train with High Intensity
  • Get Proper Nutrition
  • Get a Training Partner
  • Set a Schedule and Stick to It
  • Set Goals
  • Include Core Strengthening in your Training
  • Stretch After your Workouts
  • Get Proper Rest
To top it all, play with heart and desire, whether it's practice, pick-up games, or the game itself. How you practice reflects on how you play. You have to become a confident and smarter basketball player, too!

Honda CBR150R

We said goodbye to our old Honda Dream which served us for over 3 years and welcome a 2nd-hand Honda CBR150 R to the family:

It's only offered to us for only 20,000 Thb and it's slightly used by our neighbor. Isn't that a sweet deal? It's very ideal for long-distance travel in daily basis. It's very useful for hubby since he's traveling everyday to Songkhla- a 45-minute drive from our place. Our friends told us that we're so lucky to have it. My hubby's friends were looking for a motorbike like this but the lowest price they can found is 45,000 Thb. Hubby said we could still improve the look of this sports bike by installing OEM wheels on the rear.

My sister and I

Glad to have a sister with me here in a foreign land. The 13 years gap in our age doesn't make a difference. I have someone to talk to endlessly! WE can be sassy, silly, bossy, funny, sweet and pretty. We love dressing up, experiments on make-up and nail painting! It's fun to have sisters especially if all 9 of us are here together!

My sister is someone to share secrets with . She is that person that shows an interest in anything I choose to do. She is my shopping buddy and my food consuming companion...LOL!... but whatever I call her, she will forever be not just a sister, but also my best friend.

Sporty Momma

Got a new blog courtesy of my Marce Jade. She's giving to me her domain sportymomma.com and I'm excited to use it to build up a niche on Health and Fitness. It would also serve as my personal diary on becoming health and fit. If you got a sports-minded hubby like moi, most likely you’ll be influenced to adapt an active and healthy lifestyle. Recently, I joined a fitness meme "Get Lost" where members are encouraged to watch each others weight and health. Isn't it fun to have people on blogosphere who'll walk with you in your journey to fitness and health? Indeed, it IS! Each Tuesday, we’ll meet (via blogs), compare notes on what we’re doing and eating for the week and encourage one another that we can do what we aimed for-lose weight, firmer muscles and healthier lifestyles! By jotting down and taking pictures of what I've eaten for the week, my sister commented that I seriously needed appetite control pills! Why did she say that? Because she's seen that I've eaten more than what's required for the day. No wonder I'm still struggling to lose weight! With luscious food that surrounds you everyday in school, won't you be tempted to try them all?...*sigh*.... My sister's right, I badly needed to control my appetite!

Group Fitness Classes to Keep Fit

What I like here in Thailand is the availability of local group fitness classes. It's not needed for yourself to get enroll. All you need to do is find these fitness groups in park or somewhere near the mall every 6:00 PM, joined them and follow the moves from the leader onstage and just prepare 5 baht for contribution. Just like that and you're in! No registration needed, no fuss and no worries if you miss the group exercise! It's one of the ways that motivated me on staying fit. It's the reason why I haven't considered  diet pills  yets..he..he...If I can't join these group, I have my own little zumba exercise with my younger sister. It's great to have someone joining me with my quest to stay fit because I've noticed before that doing it alone leads to loss of motivation and discouragement.

If you plan to join group fitness classes, be aware that there are many types of group fitness classes that are offered and most of them are fun and interesting. It is advised that you do a brief research, maybe attend one or two to find out if it is the right fit for you before you decide to join up.

Some of these classes are categorized into age or lifestyle. Thus you might have fitness classes for pregnant women or fitness classes for seniors. Make sure that the fitness class fits your age and lifestyle. In need of more inspiration, sometimes I think about getting a personal trainer (with great certification, of course!). Maybe I'll get so good I can become one myself! Guide to Online Schools, I found, can hook me up to such training.

How to get paid for blogging?

What makes you blog in the first place? For me, I started a month after I gave birth. I wanted to document my son’s milestones so that my parents in Philippines could see how their grandson grows. I’m also inspired to give blogging a shot because I got friends who started earning with their blogs. It’s like killing two birds in one stone. I’m able to enjoy writing while making money from my blog. I’m learning while earning, right? To date (after two years of blogging) I was able to put up 7 blogs that are earning dollars (not that much but it helps support my hobby and other stuff) and I have 3 others which are still on infancy stage.
There are several paid blogging networks that accept blogs and then pay you for the blog posts you put up. Some give you what to write about, others just ask for you to place a link in any post of your choice and most of them pay regularly. Here are some of the top blogging networks I’ve been involved to:

PayU2Blog.com
This is a service that provides you with a link and anchor word to put in a blog post. You are allowed to post about whatever you like, just put the link and anchor word in that post. They are different from other services in that you do not get to pick and choose what you want; you are assigned work and you cannot reject it. Work is given out regularly (every week) but not always and the pay is $5 for each blog post. Occasionally, some offers $7, other times $8.

Since May 2, 2010 until today, August 19, 2011, I received 445 assignments from them. Multiply it by 5 (average rate is $5 per post, remember?). Do the math. I didn’t expect that I reached that certain amount. If I haven’t withdrawn the money from my PayPal account every month, I could have bought Nikon D5100 or spent a day or two in Singapore’s Universal Studio with that amount! I hope next time.

Sponsoredreviews.com
By adding your blog to this network, advertisers can find you and purchase reviews directly. You set your own price and have the ability to reject or accept any offer. Once accepted you must write the review within 7 days. While waiting for advertisers to buy reviews, you can bid on opportunities. If advertisers approve your bid, you can start writing using the keywords and anchor links provided. Required words are from 200-400 and prices range from $5-$40. Other bloggers were lucky enough to win a bid of $1000! But you will only be paid 50%. The other half belongs to the network. Thus, bloggers are advised to make any required adjustments to blog prices and new bids in order to compensate for the increased transaction fees.
Since December 2009, I only earned $190.25 because I rarely bid resulting to few bids being won. Another reason is that my blogs have low PR’s .

Bucks2blog.com
Once accepted at Bucks2blog, they will send you email about new campaigns. Read through them and select any that appeal to you or your readers. When you see a topic you’re interested in, simply reply with a short summary of what you would write about on your blog. They select the bloggers who best fit the campaign. If selected they send you the guidelines and how much the job pays. They usually send 1 email a week. Pay is usually $20 per post and they socially bookmark your post to help drive traffic to your blog.  You get paid within 15 days. So far, I’m with this system for only two months and I’m having great time. I’ve been selected three times and been paid.

Blogvertise.com
The pay per assignment can range from $2 to $20. You are given an assignment to blog about but have the choice of accepting or rejecting. Work is not always regular but they have ‘grab bags’ where you might find extra work. I’m frustrated in this network because since 2009 I’ve seen those “grab bags” only twice. I received assignments for only twice, too! But other bloggers are lucky with this system-they have regular assignments and they’re being paid higher than with Payu2blog.

Blogitive.com
These are also very good and work is a bit regular. The only thing is that they only accept blogs that are PR1 and above.

I’m disappointed with this network because I’ve been accepted and written about 3 posts worth $5 each posts. But before I’ll be paid there’s a glitch in their network and when I tried to sign-in, I couldn’t because I’m not approved yet! I already contacted Blogitive.com but they haven’t taken necessary action yet. Here’s the proof that I’ve been accepted to this network:

Dear Genebei Saratorio,

Dear Genebei Faith Saratorio,

We have received your recent inquiry. A Blogitive representative will reply within 2 business days.

I’ve written them thrice but no Blogitive representative replies. Where’s that “A Blogitive representative will reply within 2 business days” thing?

The following are good blogging sites that works well for others but for some factors (like Page Ranks, Alexa Ranking , traffic issues) they’re not working well to me now. I rarely get jobs from them. Try them, they might work for you.

Social Sparks
This is the first site I’ve joined. Work is fairly constant and you could earn as much as $15 per blog post. They practice remote blogging that is, you put the text into their system and they post directly to your blog. The problem is that once you start publishing posts for social sparks, some other paid blogging networks will not accept you. Thus, I gave this up in favor to other blogging network. Besides,  I don’t have regular job in here. Offers are mostly available to those bloggers in USA.

PayPerPost
They pay you to write posts about various services and sites, with a minimum word limit and specific links you have to place in that post.

You pick what you want to post about, depending on what is available to you.

For me, I have earned a fair bit of pocket money ($146.60). I gave this up since I got accepted at Payu2blog. I got lazy writing 200-400 words for only $1-$2 whereas in Payu2blog I’m only required to write a minimum of 60 words and they’ll pay me for $5.

Inpostlinks
Though I’ve been paid $230.15 , I gave this up because I can’t sit in front of the computer all day watching for opportunities to be available to me. Page Ranks matter most in this system. The higher your blog’s page rank, the more opportunities be made available to you. And if opportunities be made available to me, they only offer $.50-$2 for 200 words.

You see, paid blogging has become quite popular among many work-at-home mums, stay-at-home moms and even working moms like me, with some owning several blogs submitted across several networks. While some networks will not accept your blog unless it has a Google page rank of 1 and above, others will accept it once you have been blogging for at least three months.

To get the most out of these networks however, you would need to purchase your own domain name and probably get your own hosting. If you are using blogger, you can use their hosting but not if you are on a WordPress.com blog. You would need to get your blog transferred to a self hosted wordpress blog.

If you do not have a blog yet but need extra income, now is the time to try your hands at blogging.

Pedal Boating in Hatyai Municipality Park

My mom's father (my late Grandpa) was a fisherman. We enjoyed boating when we visited him. We took pleasure in watching him swam deep down in the deep blue sea and emerged with sea urchin within his hands! Isn't that amazing! We really had great time fishing with our parents.

I wanted my son, Hyzyd, to experience the same thrill of boating but for the moment, the only kind of boating that I could offer to him is pedal or paddle boating in Hatyai Municipality Park. Hatyai Municipality Park offers paddle boat rentals that can be safely enjoyed by 2 riders. The paddle boats are ideal for sightseeing, people watching, exercising or simply enjoying the lake inside of Hatyai Municipality Park.

My sister and I paddling our way around the pond inside Hatyai Municipality Park

My son enjoyed watching the scenery and people paddling around

father and son bonding...

they surely had a great time!

Hyzyd's enjoyed feeding the fish!
Look how BIG the fish are!

Enjoy the benefits of Less Cluttered Home

Weekends are great time for a working mom like me to declutter. I used to hoard things...I fear to throw away things from home because f the feeling that I might regret it in the future if I may need it again. But when I get married and have toddler, I began enjoying minimalism. I throw away or give away things which I haven't used for awhile. I begin simply by just reducing excess things in our home. Once I take that first step, I start to experience the benefits of minimalism in my life...thanks to hubby who encouraged me give all my used clothes that haven't been used for a while and minimized thrifting on weekends. It's hard to give up your bundles of clothes at first but when I started I enjoy the refreshing feeling of a less-cluttered closet. Soon, I notice countless other things that can easily be reduced in our home. Before I know it, I made significant progress in my journey towards a more simplified life.

The Hat

Was checking my Marce Kaye's Birthday Giveaway Winner announcement and I'm delighted to find out the new application she used to pick one random name from her list for the birthday giveaway winner. It's not the overused Random.org but The Hat.  Just like pulling names from a hat, only much easier plus with drum rolling sound effect!

Now that I'm introduced to THE HAT, the next time I'll hold a giveaway, I would never hesitate to use this simple but handy little utility that offers a fun and easy way to automatically determine a random order from a list of any amount of names. You can even use it to pick individual names for raffle and sweepstakes winners, etc. or pick pairs of names for deciding random partnerships (this is useful tool for teachers to select pair of students to do projects or play games), complete with cool animation and sound effects.

And if Pinay WAHMS Birthday Giveaway will decide to use this application to pick up their winners, hope I'll be lucky to be randomly pick for first prize! That would be so sweeeeettttt!!!LOL!

In your dreams, Genefaith!

Thailand Celebrates Mother's Day

Mother's Day in Thailand falls on August 12, the birthday of the Queen of Thailand. All school celebrated Mother's Day day with much vigor and respect to honor all MOTHERS. The preschoolers prepared dances and songs to offer to their moms during a special program. My K-1 and K-2 had their program last Thursday and Friday morning but I wasn't able to witness their program because I had classes. I was just able to capture one of their uber nice costume during their practice:

all are uniform-dress, hair accessories, gloves and even earrings!
A large photo mosaic of Her Majesty

Imagine the time spent to cut paper tiles and design the image of the Queen. Impressive!

Photo Frames of the Queen from the past years and the recent ones

It's one of her younger photos that I like

The following are just few of the children's sample of mother's day card to be given to their mothers on August 12 :

These children are blessed that they were taught the value of mothers in their lives as young as they are. Next year, I could experience attending a program specially dedicated for mothers coz my Hyzyd will be on Kinder 1. I can't wait for that! I'm sure that this Sunday, the church will also host a short special program for mothers. I'm sure bouquet of flowers are waiting for us!

Random thoughts on random things-insurance, health and wealth

I thought I'd stop talking about insurance and lurking at insurance sites like http://www.wholesaleinsurance.net/ ( because all of the best term life insurance quotes can be found in here) since I was informed last week that there's a great possibility that the insurance company where my school registered me before would accept new members. I was frustrated and confused upon knowing that I'm not qualified because I hold a Thai Teacher's License! What's the relation with it with my insurance application? Could somebody explain to me WHY? I better look for other insurance company, continue my contribution to PhilHealth and keep myself healthy and fit all the time. Thank goodness that after my medical check-up yesterday, everything turned up well- normal blood pressure and sugar level. Than you Lord for the good health. Truly my health is my wealth!

Why we're wearing black and white for two weeks

HRH Princess Bejraratana, the only child of King Vajiravudh, Rama VI, and Queen Suvadhana, died last July 27 afternoon at Siriraj Hospital at the age of 85. To show respect of the passing of HRH Princess Bejraratana all of us (nationwide policy) are requested to wear black and/or white clothes until the 12th August 2011.

It's time to bring out my black and white suits.
